The papers consist of seven books of diaries and reports of conversations and work with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, covering the period January 16, 1938-July 13, 1945 and three chit books covering the years 1933-1945, kept by Henry Morgenthau, Jr., Secretary of the Treasury from 1934-1945. In addition to summaries of conversations with President Roosevelt, the papers contain correspondence, memoranda, and reports concerning domestic politics, economic conditions, and foreign policy.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt.
